Consolidation

The addition of a load on the soil surface can cause the soil layers beneath experiencing compression. Compression is caused by the deformation of soil particles, particle relocation, out of water or air from the pores, and other causes. Some or all of these factors have a relationship with the state of the relevant land.

If the emphasis of a soil layer depends on the time, called the reduction influence consolidation or more commonly referred to as the consolidation course. General theory which includes the concept of pore pressure and effective stress is one thing that was originally developed by Terzaghi.
Consolidation characteristics of a soil is the coefficient of pressure index index (Cc) and the coefficient of consolidation (Cv). Index of pressure depends on how much reduction and consolidation that will occur. The coefficient of consolidation associated with how long a consolidation will occur.

Consolidation parameters can be obtained (estimated) from the laboratory consolidation test.
